Active Students Only

We offer violin rentals to students actively taking lessons at NYC Violin Studio. Unfortunately, at this time, we cannot offer rentals to students who are not taking lessons or classes with us.

Security Deposit

All rentals require a refundable security deposit of $150, which will be returned when the violin is returned in the same condition. Though damages are rare, the repair cost of any damages that do occur will be deducted from this amount.

If the repair cost of the damage is greater than the deposit amount of $150, you will be charged for the additional amount, or, a replacement price, (between $300 - $590, depending on the cost of the model you receive), whichever is lower.

In the unfortunate event that you damage the instrument during your rental period, you have the option to take your instrument to a qualified luthier for repair, and still receive your full security deposit back.

Rental Start Date

Violin rentals are $39.99/month, plus tax. The day you start the rental and the day of pick-up should coincide. Your card will be charged on the same date each month until the violin is returned. There are no refunds for partial months.

Returning Your Violin

Since rentals are auto-charged on the same date each month, it is best to return your violin before it's next run date to avoid an extra month's fee.

1. While not required, students tend to find it easiest to book a time to drop off their rental. Click here to do so.

2. We will check over the violin and bow and make sure the instrument is not damaged.

3. We will end your recurring charge within the next 2-7 days, as well as process your Security Deposit refund. Scheduling a drop-off helps to ensure a timely deposit refund.

Size Swap

You can switch instruments, cases or instrument sizes at any time, based on availability.

String Replacements

From time to time you may break a string (for example, while tuning.) We will replace the string for a fee of $10. You can also purchase a string elsewhere and replace it yourself, if you prefer.

Rent To Buy

Right now we are not offering a Rent-to-Buy program. We do sell violins, but our rental stock is held separate.

You may, however, use your security deposit on a new instrument once your rental is returned.
