8 Week Semester
The Absolute Beginner Violin Class is an 8-week semester of live classes. The group classes consist of 6 - 12 other adults learning violin for the first time, taught by a teacher experienced in teaching adult beginners. We will set up and tune your violin before the first class, and over the course of the 8 weeks, show you how to hold and tune your violin, as well as how to bow, ready easy sheet music and play some songs!
Our goal is to hold a fun, effective class that will give you the tools to play music on your own, and to introduce you to a community of adults who share the same passion you do.
If You Miss a Class
You can make it up with a discounted private lesson, or catch up for free on your own using the provided eCourse.
Free eCourse and Online Practice Videos
We will use the Absolute Beginner Violin Book as a textbook. You receive a free printed copy as part of your semester purchase, which you will receive on the first day of class. You'll also receive free access to the eCourse, so that you can practice to the Practice Videos that go along with the book. In short, we have everything you need to learn violin!
Once per week
Class is held at the same time each week for 8 weeks, just enough time to get through the Absolute Beginner Book 1. Class times are noted above. Classes are 1 hour long.
In Midtown
Classes are held at NYC Violin Studio, located at our new studio at 134 W 26th St, Suite 701 (7th floor).
Rent or Buy a Violin
You'll need a violin for class. You can bring your own violin, or rent or buy from us. Rentals are $40/mo plus tax, until you return the instrument. After you've enrolled, click here to start your rental.

So, You've Never Touched a Violin Before?
Great. You'll fit right in!
Adults can learn violin! It doesn't have to take very long, and starting is easy. With this class, it's the perfect excuse for a social activity because you actually learn faster in a group setting!
I want to show you how to play violin if you:
- Have never touched a violin before (or any instrument for that matter)!
- Used to play violin when you were younger, and feel like you forgot everything (don't worry, you didn't).
- Have always dreamed of playing the violin.
The Absolute Beginner Violin Method Book 1
Written by Antoinette Ady, to address the problem of a lack of material for busy, working adults. This book was written for adults learning an instrument for the first time, in a group setting. It has lots of duets to keep learning fun, and exercises to accommodate students at different learning speeds. This book comes for free with the class, as well as practice videos for each and every exercise.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I've been taking violin group classes at the NYC Violin Studio for two years now and I love it. I started as a beginner and now I'm in the intermediate class. Both Antoinette and Marie are amazing teachers. Even now with the covid pandemic, taking online classes I've improved a lot, and also I've enjoyed playing and the concerts. I can't wait to start the summer semester!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
"I cannot recommend NYC Violin Studio enough. I have been to other schools in NYC and this is by far the best. Scheduling is incredibly easy. If I needed to miss a class I could make it up on another date. The instruction is fantastic. I think the instructors understand that most of the students aren't planning on becoming concert violinists, so they focus on teaching interesting pieces while providing enough theory and technique to improve without completely overwhelming us. Truly top notch professionals who make the class fun!"

"Antoinette is not only a wonderful musician, she's a true teacher. She was endlessly patient with me and could always find a different way to explain or describe what I needed to do. She was always encouraging but never fake about praise, so when I got it, I knew I'd actually done something right--and if I didn't, she would simply work with me further on it until I did. I'm a teacher myself, so I recognize what it takes to be a good one--and Antoinette is not just good: she's excellent. I've never met better."
