Winter 2020 Group Violin Class Description
For your safety and ours, this semester the classes will be held online, with a free virtual concert on Sunday, December 13th. This semester you will be learning at least two pieces to perform in the year-end concert. After you learn your parts, you'll be videoing them and submitting them by December 1st, giving us enough time to edit everyone’s parts together before the concert. During the last 2 weeks of class we’ll work on short new tunes, sight reading and maybe even a little improvisation (if you’re up for it)!
What is the All Access Pass?
The All Access Pass gives you unlimited access to 2 things:
all Group Violin Classes and the Group Class Resources.

Sept 29th – Dec 13th
No classes during the week Nov. 23rd – 29th (Thanksgiving).
Once you sign up, the package code will be emailed to you. Save that for scheduling your classes.
All group violin classes are held twice a week, once on a weekday and once on Saturday.
Students may attend 1x or 2x per week, though 2x is encouraged for fastest progress. Saturday's class is a duplicate of the weekday class. If you miss a class, you can catch up by watching the recorded class video and practicing to it.
This semester you also have the benefit of Open Office Hours, where you can ask the teacher anything. No appointment needed. Just show up to the same Zoom classroom that we use for class.
Students in all classes will learn at least two pieces or songs for their class. You will record your part and turn it in by December 1st for a Virtual Orchestra concert. The last 1-2 weeks of class will be dedicated to short tunes, sight reading, or improvising practice.
Register by Sept 22nd, 2020. Enroll as early as possible so the classes can be tailored based on who is enrolled (yes, we really do this).

For students who have completed the Beginner Semester. Of, if you've played violin in the past and still remember the basics such as how to bow, how to read basic music, how to play in at least 2 keys, and who have learned accidentals.
We will be learning the Advanced version of Ashokan Farewell and a piece in the Nutcracker, as well as the accompanying scales and exercises to get you there. You'll record your parts and send them in by Dec 1st. I'll put them together for the live virtual concert on Dec 13th.

For students in this class will have just completed the Late Beginner Semester.
You know how to read accidentals and play in more than one key. We will be continue learning Pachelbel's Canon, practice shifting in 3rd and 5th position, and mid-way through we will begin learning a piece from the Nutcracker for the Dec 13th concert. You'll record your parts and turn them in by December 1st so they can be combined and formed into a virtual orchestra.

This semester we will be learning a Vivaldi Concerto and a beautiful piece with double stops. You'll record your parts by Dec 1st and submit them. I'll put them together to form a Virtual Orchestra and we'll have a live virtual concert on Dec 13th. During the last two weeks of class we'll learn short tunes, practice sight reading, and hopefully even some improvisation skills.
And of course, we'll practice scales and exercises along the way to help get you there faster.
YOUR ONLINE RESOURCES
With your All Access Pass, you'll receive a complimentary Group Class Resources & Archives subscription starting the day of your enrollment, and available until the end of the semester.
After your free subscription ends, you can purchase a subscription from the store to continue your violin journey in between semesters.
You'll use the Group Class Resources to complement your live group classes. Each week, you'll have:
Plans + Downloads: This is a summary of what is to happen in the class, including any specific goals.
Practice Videos: These are videos made for you to practice to.
Recorded Group Classes: Here is where you will find a recording of the Group Classes we had. Watch it if you missed the class, or just for extra practice (or to hear my bad jokes again).
GROUP CLASS ARCHIVES
You''ll gain access the archive for all previous online semesters, beginning with Summer 2020 and all of those class's Plans + Downloads (PDFs), Practice Videos and Recorded Group Classes.
Violin Community
You'll receive free access to our Violin Community. This is where you can interact with other adult violin students, just like you. If you’re not big on Facebook this is perfect for you as there are no ads and no storing or sharing of information. Just a pure unadulterated violin forum. Share ideas, advice, success stories, progress videos, inspirational videos, links.
Preparing for Online Group Class
Before Class
- Using the email you received, schedule yourself online for all the classes you plan to attend so your teacher can plan accordingly. Kindly reschedule or cancel any classes you learn you can't attend (the sooner, the better).
- Get a physical metronome. I like Seiko.
- Download Zoom on your computer if you don't already have it.
- Adjust Audio & Video Settings in Zoom as directed.
- Tune before class and have your nails trimmed short. Please don't be late. You'll want to warm up with the rest of the class so you don't jump in cold and scramble to catch up for a while.
- From your computer, Log in to Zoom at class time.
During Class
You'll be on mute most of the time, but will occasionally get to lead the class and have the teacher hear you. Have your metronome handy because you'll need it. Don't be afraid to unmute yourself at any time and ask questions, give comments or tell your wins!
After Class
Please try to practice at least several times in between classes, especially if you’re only able to make it once to class per week. If there is any way you can attend 2 classes per week, please do!
Group Class Cancellation and Refund Policies
Cancellation policy. There is no penalty for late-canceling a group class, however please cancel online or inform your teacher so she can plan accordingly.
Expiration. The All Access Pass activates the complimentary Online Resources membership immediately. This membership and the unlimited class credits expire on December 13th, 2020. Refunds and exchanges are not offered. However, if you purchase a class semester and never break into your package, you may use the full semester during a later semester.
Partial packages will not be refunded or exchanged.
